The
story of Casanova begins with a young Corsican boy named
Pierre Toussaint Vivoni,
who left Corsica in the mid 19th century in search of
a better life. In 1857 he settled in Puerto Rico where
he fell in love and married a young lady from a respectable
family of Puerto Rican society, la
Señorita Concepción Ramírez de Arellano.
Pierre Toussaint Vivoni made fortune in the sugar cane
business, and not surprisingly his first earnings were
sent back to his family in Corsica to fulfill a life-long
dream: to build a villa worthy of everyones admiration...
Construction of Casanova began towards the end of the
1860s, but developed slowly due to fluctuating prices
in the sugar industry. In fact, it was only in 1893 that
the house was completed, almost 25 years after it was
begun! |
